Estive a ler um artigo interessante sobre a tradução dos famosos versos de Dogen, que em inglês tenho encontrado assim:
To study the Way is to study the self.
To study the self is to forget the self.
To forget the self is to be enlightened by all things.
To be enlightened by all things is to remove the barriers between one’s self and others.
A tradução proposta passaria a ser:
Following the Buddha Way really means following yourself.
Following yourself really means forgetting yourself.
Forgetting yourself really means trusting reality.
And trusting reality really means dissolving bodymindedness both within and without.
Seguir a Via de Buda realmente significa seguir-se a si mesmo.
Seguir-se a si mesmo realmente significa esquecer-se de si mesmo.
Esquecer-se de si mesmo realmente significa confiar na realidade.
E confiar na realidade realmente significa dissolver o corpo-mente por dentro e por fora.
